Two-Dimensional Modelling of the Mixing Patterns in a Tropical Semiarid Reservoir

Tropical semi-arid regions suffer with recurrent droughts and uncertain water availability, but a few research studies have been conducted to further understand those complexities their relationships reservoir hydrodynamics. This study assessed the hydrodynamic processes of multiple-use located in Brazilian semiarid region. The aim was apply CE-QUAL-W2 model lake’s thermal structure its variabilities time space by using Richardson’s number (Ri) as reference. Meteorological patterns were also investigated. Results show that: (1) no significant changes found analysing spatial stratification; (2) seasonal relevant more robust stratification stability observed wet period when availability may be impacted poor quality; (3) from meteorological evaluations, rainfall showed strong coefficient determination Ri (r² 0.77); (4) threshold value 60 mm monthly precipitation an indication stable column.
